“There’s never enough time to get it all done!” We all face the pressures of too much to do and too little time to do it. Time management techniques help us to prioritize our tasks and create schedules so that we can achieve our goals. Start taking control of your time by making a complete list of your to-do items for the next month. Then categorize your items according to the T.I.M.E. system. Take a hard look at where you are currently spending your time. As a manager, you should be spending the majority of your time on tasks that invest in the long-term success of you and your team. Schedule your tasks on your calendar so that you can spend dedicated time accomplishing your priorities.
- Time-sensitive tasks that are immediate and critical. “A” priority items.
- Investment tasks such as long-term goals, learning and planning. “B” priority items.
- Maintenance tasks which are routine, everyday work activities. “C” priority items.
- Extra tasks that may be fun but unnecessary. “D” priority items.
